Majadahonda has opted for new side-loading containers for collecting organic matter

Majadahonda City Council has decided to introduce the brown container for the fifth category of waste at different locations in the Borough in order to collect this fraction while contributing to the correct recycling of all the waste generated by the residents.

The Councillor for the Environment, Laura Romero, considers that “this decision encourages us to make residents aware of the need to separate the different kinds of waste that we generate and to dispose of them in their respective containers: brown, grey, green, yellow, orange or black. It is a way of helping to care for the environment and contributing to the recycling process so that such waste can be given a second life”.

To be specific, the brown container must be used to dispose of waste such as: remnants of fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, coffee and tea grounds, small amount of leftovers from meals and gardening waste, cork stoppers, matches, kitchen paper or dirty napkins, amongst other things. By installing this new fraction on the collection routes, the City Council wishes to prevent waste that belongs to other fractions from being disposed of in this container.

Correctly separating waste at source contributes to providing a second use for the waste being recycled, which is not possible when the different elements are improperly mixed. That is why it is always necessary to explain the correct way to sort and dispose of each waste type. The recycling of organic matter enables it to be utilised as fertiliser or for energy purposes if it is correctly disposed of in the brown containers.

Purchasing these new containers forms part of the complete replacement of all the container units in this city in the Province of Madrid. CONTENUR is delivering more than 1,500 side-loading containers of its OVAL model. The City Council has decided to replace all its containers for the different fractions with this model, as it is more accessible and environmentally-friendly.

The OVAL container has been designed according to eco-design standards. The model is ergonomic and easy-to-use. With a total height of 1,600 mm, it does not limit pedestrian visibility and in no way constitutes a visual obstruction, which makes it safe for passers-by. Moreover, it is a 100% recyclable product at the end of its useful life.
